This year’s Celebration of Light honored Catholic school faculty and staff with the Archbishop’s Award for their incredible efforts inside and out of the classroom. The following quotes show the depth of care and hard work that teachers, administrators, and staff put into serving their students to the fullest. Thank you, Catholic school faculty and staff—you are truly miracle workers!
“I just think our teachers are miracle workers. It is so important to celebrate our educators this year because they are at the center of our work. We can’t do it without them. The second year of COVID, I know for a fact that it’s the hardest year they’ve ever had.
Some of our students haven’t been in the school for two years. So you can imagine the challenge of re-teaching all of the routines and all of the things we kind of take for granted, quite honestly. They’re managing so many things. And on top of that, they’re trying to be the creative, faith-filled teachers they’ve always been.
I wish with all my might that every teacher could hear this when I say that we simply can’t be without you. You are so deserving of this award. Thank you. Thank you for everything you’ve done, for the challenge you’ve had. Thank you.” —Kristin Dixon, Superintendent for Catholic Schools
“It’s really a calling—a vocation. I think of Jesus, when he speaks of when they push you to go one mile, go two. And they did that. They really lived that teaching of Christ.” —Fr. Tim Clark, Pastor, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School
“We have a really strong sense of family and I think all our Catholic schools do. I’m just amazed at the teachers. They just rolled up their sleeves and they just did it. I just kind of see it as a miracle that happened and they were part of that miracle. They just went way beyond the call of duty, because they are true ministers.” —Dr. Karen Matthews, Principal, St. Michael Catholic School Snohomish
