The Special Olympics USA Games is the biggest sporting event to take place in the Seattle area in more than 25 years. Taking place July 1 through 6, this year’s games marks the 50th anniversary of the event which showcases the abilities of athletes with intellectual disabilities. One of our very own has been participating in the gymnastic events at the Special Olympics USA Games this week. Eight year-old Frannie, who just finished second grade at St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic School, competed in four events and was the youngest athlete to participate.
Earlier this week, Fulcrum Administrative Assistant, Joey McFaul, supported the Special Olympics by spending the day at Seattle University as a volunteer for the basketball games. She reflects:
“It was a truly amazing experience with over 4,000 athletes representing all 50 states. I had the privilege of meeting so many extraordinary people this week, and was honored to be a part of an event that was so many years in the making. I witnessed and was inspired by the passion and determination of these amazing athletes. Volunteering at the Special Olympics is a great reminder of what it means to be a part of a community. Taking part in volunteer opportunities such as this reminds me not only of the call to serve, but of the hundredfold return that is ours when we give of ourselves in service to others.”
